A week ago, many blockchain technology developers and enthusiasts from all across Europe (half of the audience being from outside of Denmark) gathered at the Black Diamond in Copenhagen. They did so to attend the European Blockchain Convention. Startup Odense was a partner to the event and we were present as well!
There were many panels throughout the day discussing how blockchain technology can be applied to different industries such as electronic identification, healthcare, automation, supply chain and banking. There were interesting panelists from organizations such as the IMF (International Monetary Fund), the World Economic Forum and various startups actively building blockchain solutions.
One interesting discussion was about how different countries have a different relation with blockchain. For example, the impact on citizens living in countries, such as Venezuela with a failing banking front. As Venezuela is facing strong inflation in its economy and the banking system is unstable, cryptocurrencies offer an electronic alternative.
One key takeaway from this event is that the technology keeps advancing at a fast pace and the regulations surrounding blockchain technology is not optimal yet but politicians, governments and law practitioners are actively listening and participating to make sure everyone involved has a safe and pleasant experience using this technology.
Blockchain technology is at its early stages but it is gaining a lot of traction and more companies are realizing its potential. As was said and discussed by many panelists, Copenhagen, and Denmark as a whole, has the potential to be a pioneer in this field with the brains and the means to create a strong ecosystem.
The convention is set to happen again in Copenhagen and Barcelona.
